Lectopia

Lectopia (formerly known as the iLecture System) was developed by staff within the Multimedia Centre in response to the University of Western Australia's commitment to flexible modes of teaching and learning. Initially implemented as the iLecture System at UWA in 1999, Lectopia is an innovative, easy-to-use system that facilitates the recording of lectures and events for delivery via the internet.

With Lectopia, students can access lecture recordings over the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at their own convenience. Through Lectopia, audio and visuals from traditional face-to-face lectures and events are automatically recorded and processed into a variety of streaming media formats, with minimal impact on the lecturer or presenter.

The System is installed in a large number of lecture theatres at UWA and used throughout the campus by a wide range of disciplines/schools. In addition, Lectopia has been licensed to other Australian Universities including the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, Macquarie University and Curtin University.

In 2007 the Lectopia product was purchased by U.S. company Anystream Apreso, however the Lectopia service at UWA remains in place and is largely unaffected by the change of ownership.

For UWA Staff:

  • Detailed information for staff using Lectopia can be found on the Lectopia @ UWA website.
  • Staff wishing to make a Lectopia booking should refer to the Bookings page on the Lectopia @ UWA website.
For UWA Students:
  • Lecturing staff choosing to use Lectopia to record their lectures will usually publish the recordings via a learning management system (WebCT, FlyingFish, etc.), or via the unit webpage. The lecturer is responsible for providing students with the appropriate access information.
  • Students wishing to know if their lectures are being recorded (or to place a request for recordings to be made) should contact the Unit Coordinator.
