Project - Culture and Language of Italy on CD-Rom

The Culture and Language of Italy on CD-Rom (CLIC) project aims to produce a multimedia teaching resource on the subject of Italy's linguistic history for the university and library market.

The product was initially developed by Michael Fardon in the Multimedia Centre between April 1996 and June 1998. Using SuperCard and produced in CD-Rom format, the project was developed with the assistance of CAUT funding awarded to Associate Professor John Kinder in 1995. This product has been used at the University of Western Australia since 1997.

Unfortunately, SuperCard is a Mac-only software application, something that has considerably narrowed the market for the CLIC resource in its current format. From 2004 - 2007, Leitha Delves and Scott Tylor from the Multimedia Centre worked on reviving the original cross-platform goals of the CLIC teaching resource, the new version of which is now being marketed to a wider audience.

In many ways, the new version is simply a 'replica' of the current CD-Rom version, particularly in terms of functionality, overall look-and-feel and appearance, despite being produced in Flash with a higher screen resolution. The new version of the product demonstrates a learning object approach, allowing some sections of the product to be used independently as separate teaching resources. It also features an image library and improved Help functionality.

The new version of CLIC will be released by the UWA Italian Department and the Multimedia Centre in 2008.
