Online Learning Tool Design and Support
The Multimedia Centre provides an online learning tool design and development service to the UWA community. Two examples of recent projects in this area, the Academic Conduct Online module and the Introductory Research and Information Skills unit, are provided below.
Academic Conduct Online (ACO) ACO is an online resource module, delivered through WebCT, that aims to help students to understand the University's expectations of ethical scholarship. One of its major purposes is to assist students in making decisions about what to do to avoid possible consequences for academic misconduct.
The MMC played a fundamental role in developing this unit. We designed the overall structure, style and layout of the unit, and delivered the final product to the project committee on time and on budget.

Introductory Research and Information Skills (IRIS)
IRIS is the result of a collaboration between the Library and the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It is an online unit, delivered through WebCT, that aims to provide students with the skills required to locate, evaluate and effectively use information.
From semester one 2006, IRIS will be compulsory for all commencing undergraduate students. Students are required to pass an online quiz in order to satisfy the requirements of IRIS, with the Pass/Fail result appearing on their academic transcript.
The MMC was involved in re-designing the style and layout of this unit, working closely with the Library and the Faculty's Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) to achieve a unit that was both engaging and practical for new undergraduate students.
